A little help along the way

Common questions

How do I get started?

Choose where to keep your archive: iCloud or This Device Only. Add your name and birthday, then a loved one and their birthday. Today reveals your first Shared Point: the date when your loved one was the age you are now.

From there, add memories and explore other ages. You don’t need to create a September Years account.

How do I join the beta?

September Years is preparing for its first release. Beta access is by invitation through Apple’s TestFlight app. If you’ve received an invitation, install TestFlight, accept the invitation, and install September Years from there.

You can send feedback from the app’s page in TestFlight, or email us. A beta build is available for up to 90 days; install newer builds when they become available.

My archive isn’t syncing. What should I check?
  1. Check that both devices use the same Apple Account for iCloud.
  2. In September Years, open Settings → Data storage and backups and confirm iCloud is selected on each device.
  3. Check your internet connection, available iCloud storage, and that iCloud access is enabled for September Years.
  4. Open the app on both devices and allow time for syncing.

If the archives still differ, contact us before deleting the app or replacing a timeline. Export a backup of each archive first.

How do I back up or restore my memories?

Open Settings → Data storage and backups → Export backup. Save the file somewhere private. Backups include people, memories, dates, notes, and photos; the app does not encrypt exported backup files.

Choose Restore backup in the same screen to import a saved archive. Restoring replaces the timeline in the selected storage location. If that location is iCloud, the replacement also syncs to your other devices. Export a current backup before restoring.

What happens when I change storage?

September Years copies your timeline to the selected location and leaves the previous copy intact. Switching to This Device Only stops the app from syncing that local archive, but does not erase the copy already in iCloud.

Let your devices finish syncing before switching, and export a backup first if you have important changes.

How do I restore a purchase?

Use the same Apple Account for App Store purchases that you used originally, then open Settings → Restore purchases. Archive Unlock appears under Purchases. Blue Hour and Meadow ownership appears under Appearance; tap an owned theme to apply it.

Archive Unlock and the optional themes are separate one-time purchases. During TestFlight testing, in-app purchases use Apple’s sandbox and do not charge you. Test purchases do not carry over as paid ownership in the App Store release.

Can I add a memory without the exact date?

Yes. You can use an approximate age, a month and year, or a season and year. September Years keeps that uncertainty visible instead of showing an invented exact date.

How do I remove my information?

Open a memory to delete it, or a loved one’s page to remove that person. Shared memories remain when a person is removed. With iCloud selected, deletions sync to your other devices.

Separate local archives, iCloud copies, exported backups, and previously shared images need to be managed separately. Switching storage or deleting the app alone does not erase every copy. See your data choices for more information.

Are my family’s stories public?

No. Your archive is stored on your device or in your private iCloud database. There is no public feed or shared family account. A keepsake or backup leaves the app when you choose to share or export it.
